I Need Help Now!
Emergency Mobile Psychiatric Service (EMPS) is a crisis service designed to prevent unnecessary emergency department visits and inpatient admissions, and to stabilize children and youth with emotional and behavioral disturbances.
If your child is experiencing a crisis that you can't handle, please click on the name of your town to get the phone number for your EMPS.
Note that you do not have to be connected with DCF or anyone else to call - the service is available to all families in Connecticut. If in doubt - CALL!
Phone service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. During business hours, the person who answers your call will forward your information to a crisis clinician, who should call you back within 15 minutes. After business hours, your call will go to an answering service - again, a clinician should call you back within 15 minutes.
The clinician will try to solve the problem with you over the phone. If this proves impossible, mobile teams are available to come to your house, or wherever the crisis is occurring. Note that mobility depends on a number of factors, including your preference, call volume, and the safety of the child, family and crisis staff. Peak mobile hours are shown with each listing.
